APPLE ROLL

Obtained from The Best of Bridge The men in your life will love this. Serves 4



1 cup Brown sugar 250 mL
1 cup Hot water 250 mL
1 cup Flour 250 mL
2 tsp Baking powder 10 mL
1/2 tsp Salt 2 mL
2 tbsp Shortening 25 mL
1/3 cups Milk 75 mL
2 Medium size apples peeled and thinly sliced 2
dash Brown sugar and cinnamon dash
Whipping cream, whipped


Preheat oven 350°F [180°C].

  • Combine brown sugar and hot water, heat in microwave until a syrup.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt, shortening, add milk until forms a ball, best mixed with your hands. Roll into rectangular shape. Sprinkle pastry with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread one layer of apples on top. Any remaining apples add to baking dish. Roll up and slice one inch [2-1/2 cm] thick. Put cut side down in 8x8 [20x20 cm] baking dish. Dot with butter and pour syrup over.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until brown on top. Serve with whipped cream.

Note This recipe can be easily doubled.
