APPLE PIE

Served warm from the oven with a spoonful of cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon is one of life's simple but special pleasures.

5 to 6 Large apples peeling & sliced 5 to 6
1/2 cup Brown sugar, lightly packed 125 mL
1/4 cup Raisins (optional) 50 mL
1/2 tsp Cinnamon 2 mL
Pastry for double crust pie
1 tbsp Lemon juice 15 mL
1 tbsp Butter 15 mL
Water or milk
1 tbsp Granulated sugar 15 mL


Preheat over to 425°F [220°C].

  • Combine apples, brown sugar, raisins, if using, and cinnamon.
  • Turn into pastry-lined pie plate.
  • Sprinkle with lemon juice and dot with butter.
  • Cover with top crust, seal and flute edges, cut a few slashes in top. Brush top crust lightly with water or milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake at 425°F [220°C] for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F [180°C] and bake for 45 minutes longer or until apples are tender.

Serve with cream, ice cream or Cheddar cheese.
