Grilled strawberries, cherries and angel cake kabobs.   Serves 4

3 to 4 cups cubed Store bought angel food or pound cake 750 ml to 1 lt
1 cup Cherries, pitted 250 mL
2 cups Large strawberries, hulled 500 mL
1/4 cup honey 50 mL
1 tbsp Grated orange peel 15 mL
1/4 tsp Cinnamon 1 mL
1/4 cup Orange flavored liqueur or orange juice 50 mL
2 tbsp Butter, melted 25 mL
1/4 tsp Nutmeg 1 mL
1/4 tsp Vanilla 1 mL
Vanilla ice cream
Sprint of mint

  • Thread strawberries, cherries and cake randomly on soaked 6-inch bamboo skewers.
  • In small bowl, stir together honey, orange liqueur, butter, vanilla and nutmeg. (If honey is thick, warm in microwave then stir with remaining ingredients). Set aside 2 tbsp [25 mL] for garnish.
  • Place kabobs on clean grill over med. heat. BBQ, watching carefully to avoid burning, turning and brushing frequently with honey mixture, until grill marks appear on cake and fruit begins to soften slightly, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Cross two skewers on dessert plate. Place ice cream or whipped cream beside skewers. Garnish with mint. Drizzle each plate with reserved honey mixture.
Note Place a piece of foil on grill and cut through slots. Now you don't have to worry about cleaning your grill.
